Cooking

"Kitchen Help"

Seldom do I cook anymore as having a home is required to create a home cooked meal, but this week in San Francisco I have returned to the kitchen. I cooked for my brother, sister and brother-in-law tonight and it was delicious. This is one of the simple joys I have given up for my current lifestyle.

Chicken Soup

Photographed by Kris Rodammer
Boston, MA - February 2011

I pulled a muscle in my back putting on shoes at 5:40 this morning. By 8 my first shoot was about finished and my back was throwing fits. Now, instead of shooting, I am laying on the floor with frozen chicken soup on my back. It is said that chicken soup heals everything - I'm hoping this is true.

Doors

Photographed by Mel Brackstone
Model: Zieben
Brisbane, Queensland, Australia - April 2011

I have heard it said that successful people are always working.
As a model, that does not mean always shooting. There are other sides to this job, the schedule making, physical training, networking and transportation. I also consider rest days to be essential. I am only as good as my reputation and feel every photographer deserves to have me at my best.

Today is a rest day. I have a few of those lined up since my body clock is turned upside down and around.

A trip to the SFMOMA to enhance my creativity was a thought of mine. The museum doors are closed, so I will walk outside and open the pages of my book once again.

Babies

Photographed by Dave Z of Houston
Houston, TX

I appear to be a baby magnet when it comes to airplanes. Each of my past six flights have featured young children and babies in close proximity to my seat. My 15 hour flight from Melbourne to Los Angeles featured an 8 month child immediately to my left, and two practically newborn twins directly at my right. Fortunately, with or without babies, I have arrived at my next destination.

Thud

Photographed by George Liao
Bay Area, California - February 2011

Rarely do I get to lay down and stretch out in repose when shooting, but when the occasion arises, I am a happy model.

Last night I was trying to hang from chains attached to the ceiling of a home studio, chains safety tested by a photographer about three times my size, and the chains and I came plummeting to the floor in a thud and chain to head contact. I earned getting to roll around on the floor, tied up in the chains for the next set of photos.

Workshops

Photographed by Dan Richards
Dallas, TX - March 2011

My body hurts excessively, but I am happy.

Yesterday I modeled as part of a wonderfully run workshop by Cameron Attree. I want to model in more workshops and lead them in conjunction with photographer friends this year.

Fires

Photographed by Malcolm Grant
The Bay of Fire, Tasmania - April 2011

I've been told Tasmania would like to be its own country.

An abundance of art by Malcolm Grant and I can be found on his blog, Malfoto. (Short for Malcolm, not having to do with the latin, "bad.")

Penguins

Photographed by Adrian Carmody
Melbourne, Australia - April 2011

Not only have the past few days been filled with fantastic shoots, but good food and a surprise sighting of penguins.

Light Penetration

Photographed by House of Light
Long Island, New York - March 2011

I enjoy seeing the final product of my shoots just as much as I enjoy the process. I really like the way the silhouettes were put together to create a sort of pattern with minute differences. The fact that I look like I am touching my own butt, certainly adds to the simple aesthetic feel of this for me. These photos and others posted on the blog, "Light Penetration."

Mt. Keira

The feeling between Australia and me is mutual and a positive one, even if I have not added "mate" to my vocabulary...yet. I have my very own mountain only a few hours from Sydney. And apparently a fiery bush.

Small towns

Photographed by Malcolm Grant
Bay of Fires, Tasmania - April 2011

Did you know that in some small towns you cannot return your videos through a video slot? Which means, you can't rent a movie, watch it, and return it before hitting the road if you want to leave before 10 am. At least they have a video store, right? And a pizza place that serves after 8 pm. Yesterday included a hotel room shoot, the gym, an animal park where I saw the Tasmanian devil as well as other critters, a winery and trout farm visit and a hike and waterfall shoot. After that a movie and pizza were understandably on my mind.
